The Fairytale Hairdresser and the Little Mermaid – Book Review and giveaway

The Fairytale Hairdresser and the Little Mermaid is a lovely modern day children’s fairytale story.

The Fairytale Hairdresser

I wasn’t concerned that this book might be directed more at little girls as I try to keep everything neutral for H and to be honest he thoroughly enjoyed the book especially the artwork.

Kittie Lacey is the main character who happens to the best hairdresser in town, along with her best friend Coral the mermaid the story focuses on how Coral wishes to become a human but when she does she is very unhappy and loses not only her tail but her beautiful singing voice to the wicked sea witch. Without giving too much away the story follows the tale of retrieving Coral’s singing voice and the trials and tribulations of doing this!  It has a good undercurrent of wishing to be something you are not and maybe embracing that you should be happy with who you are but obviously directed at small children! No fairytale would be complete without a love story and a happy ending!

Very good writing and clear artwork accompanies this book, each picture itself started a good storyline with H.

You can see a great interview and overview of the book  with the author  Abie Longstaff here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjtSFZxh2Uk

So all in all this is a great book with a good storyline and worthy of being read to both little boys and girls.

  1. Right now, my biggest wish is for everything to be resolved in a safe and happy way with my nieces, so they can live happily in their forever home with my mum while their parents get themselves sorted out. Nothing matters more than that right now, for me.
